Nepali Worker from Gorkha Killed in Iranian Drone Attack in Abu Dhabi

Kathmandu — A 29-year-old Nepali national from Gorkha district has been identified as one of the victims killed in a drone attack at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi, according to the Embassy of Nepal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The deceased has been identified as Diwas Shrestha, who was working as a security guard for a Middle East-based company. The embassy said he died during efforts to neutralize the drone at the airport.

According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, three foreign nationals — one each from Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan — were killed in the attack.

The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi said it received official confirmation of Shrestha’s death from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The Embassy of Nepal expresses deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Mr. Shrestha and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” the statement said.

The embassy added that it is prepared to facilitate the repatriation of the body to Nepal as soon as conditions allow.

The UAE Ministry of Defence said 58 people were injured in the attack.

Those injured include nationals of the UAE, Egypt, the Philippines, India, Pakistan and Iran, according to the ministry. Authorities have not released detailed information on the condition of the injured.

The embassy has urged all Nepali citizens residing in the UAE to remain calm, stay in safe locations and strictly follow security guidelines issued by UAE authorities.

Thousands of Nepali migrant workers are employed across the UAE, particularly in the security, construction and service sectors.

Details regarding the exact circumstances of the drone attack and its broader geopolitical implications have not yet been fully disclosed by UAE authorities.

The incident comes amid heightened security tensions in parts of the Middle East, where drone and missile threats have increasingly targeted infrastructure and civilian facilities.

Investigations into the attack are ongoing.
