Her mother tongue is Konkani. Deepika has a younger sister named Anisha .Her family moved to Bangalore, Karnataka, India, when she was eleven months old. Padukone is of Mangalorean origin, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her lineage hails from Padukone village in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of the southern state of Karnataka.

During college, Padukone started a career in modeling and modeled for Indian brand names such as Liril, Dabur Lal powder, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, and has been brand ambassador for the Jewels of India. Her dimpled looks allure the audience and she is considered as queen in the world of glamour.
At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Her photo is also seen in the 2006 Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar. The Indian media speculated on an engagement, and reported that this had occurred in November 2008, although Padukone had stated that she had no plans to marry within the next five years .Her hobbies include Music, eating, sleeping and watching movies.
